SC Suspends PU VC Over Land Allotment To Punjab Govt
The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Saturday suspended Vice Chancellor Punjab University for allotting a varsity land to the provincial government for construction of an electricity grid station.

A divisional bench headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar along with Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan was hearing a suo moto into allocation of 80 canal land of the Punjab University to the provincial government for construction of an electricity grid station.

During the proceedings, the chief justice expressed annoyance over allocation of the land and asked the vice chancellor under which capacity he had given orders of this allocation to the provincial government. “How could you give land meant for students to the Punjab government,” the CJP asked.

Justice Saqib Nisar remarked that it looks that the government do not appoint a permanent vice chancellor in order to fulfill its just or unjust demands. He further asked as to who is responsible for delay in the appointment of the vice chancellor?

The vice chancellor also offered to give his resignation to which the chief justice said that they would decide on the resignation when it comes and suspended his services and ordered the senior most professor to take charge as vice chancellor of the varsity.

It also summoned the university syndicate members who approved provision of land to the provincial government.

The counsel of the Punjab government Khalid Ranjha appealed the chief justice to review his decision.
