Sources said that the PML-N wanted to delay the judgement of the trial court to raise doubts on the judicial system during the election campaign. “The former prime minister’s London visit is also part of delaying tactics,” sources added.
Sources further quoted as saying that the PML-N supremo has also directed his team to object to the TORs for the appointments in the Army.
On the other hand, several senior party leaders have suggested Nawaz Sharif not to take the hard line because the Army wants democracy to flourish and to hold elections in the country in a peaceful environment.
“PML-N ran campaign through foreign media against Army for influencing the national media,” sources added. Earlier, defence lawyer Khawaja Harris had excused himself from representing ex-prime minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif in National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references.
Khawaja Harris said that the Supreme Court did not accept his stance of completing the trial in six weeks. I was being dictated even after judicial hours, he added.
He also expressed reservations over holding court proceedings on Saturdays and Sundays, saying that he cannot work under such circumstances.
Khawaja Harris was representing Nawaz Sharif in references pertaining to Al-Azizia Steel Mills, Flagship Investment Ltd and Avenfield properties. The hearings of these cases have entered final phase as all the witnesses have recorded their statements.
