Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah met the Chinese consul general on Friday shortly after an attack on the consulate in Karachi was foiled.

Inspector General (IG) Sindh, additional IG Karachi and director general Rangers were present during the meeting which took place shortly after three gunmen attempted to storm into the Chinese consulate located in Karachi’s Clifton Block 4.

IG Sindh briefed the attendees regarding the attack. “We have evidence regarding Balochistan Liberation Army's (BLA) involvement in the attack,” the IG Sindh said.

Earlier today, the Sindh chief minister had telephoned the Chinese consul general and assured him that security measures were being taken. CM Shah had taken notice of the attack outside the Chinese consulate in Karachi and directed authorities to ensure security of the staff present inside.

The chief minister had also telephoned Additional IG Sindh and issued instructions to send additional contingents of forces to the consulate.

Two policemen were martyred in the attack and a security guard critically injured.

Security forces had secured the area after the attack. Three gunmen tried to enter the consulate but were intercepted by guards at a checkpoint, DIG South Karachi Javaid Alam Odho said.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi told reporters in Islamabad that "all the terrorists have been eliminated".

"Terrorists attempted to enter Chinese consulate. Rangers and police have got control. Three terrorists killed. All Chinese safe. Situation under control," the military's media wing said in a statement.
