Britain's favourite festive film
It's A Wonderful Life has been crowned the nation's favourite Christmas film in a new poll.

The 1946 classic starring James Stewart and Donna Reed topped the RadioTimes.com poll of 7,000 people narrowly beating Will Ferrell's Elf.

The post-war film tells the story of George Bailey, a man who has devoted his life to helping others and is shown the value of his own life by a guardian angel, to stop him killing himself.

It was nominated for five Oscars and has become a seasonal staple around the world.

In second place in the poll came Elf, followed by The Muppets' Christmas Carol.

Controversially, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone made it into the top 20, despite the series featuring Christmas in every film, rather than being Christmas films.The Top 20:
